Wildfires are always present; their occurrence and severity vary throughout the year between the northern and southern hemispheres, affecting different countries at different times. Some areas are particularly vulnerable to these natural disturbances. However, the extreme intensities and rates of spread we have been seing, leads us to the role of climate change.

Our community of students is characterised by a high level of motivation and the ability to learn from their fire fighting experiences. If one adds to this the methodology that our students adopt throughout the course, the result is an article of such magnitude. We wrote this article in collaboration with Ismael Sais Llácer, firefighter of the CPBV, he is one of TEP ADVANCE's outstanding students

This year, in terms of extreme events, we have been constantly challenged by the simultaneous wildfire episodes. Among them, Chile in February, the simultaneous wildfires in Canada from May to this date, the wildfire in Hawaii resulting in many deaths, and recently, the largest wildfire in Europe so far this century, in Greece.

Simultaneous wildfires are a difficult phenomenon to manage and can often lead to firefighting services collapse. Especially when we are talking about episodes of great magnitude, which extend across a country, and whose duration exceeds days, if not months.

We have been talking to Brian Verhoeven, meteorologist and Researcher at the Netherlands Institute for Public Safety (NIPV), about the drought conditions that have been taking place in the last few months in Europe.

Our TEP Compact and TEP Advance programmes are structured in this way according to the competencies and skills of fire analysts as defined in the guide developed as part of the @AfanUcpm project. We will explain each of these areas and what the project is all about!

It was the 8th International Wildland Fire Conference, which took place in Oporto, Portugal. An event that brought together around 1600 people, including academic and firefighting experts from all over the world.

Little is said about all the work involved in bringing TEP to life so in this publication, we thought it would be of interest to share a little of it. Setting up a project as ambitious as this one forces us to step out of our comfort zone and go above and beyond, searching for other scenarios, experts and wildfires far from home... otherwise, where would the "globalness" of our programme be?
